Creation of an Institute for Memory Studies and Research by ULiège, ULB and the non-profit organisation MNEMA
The Institute for Memory Studies and Research aims to provide a common framework for work on different forms of memory. Conceived as a space for collaboration and networking, it brings together a wide range of expertise and supports the emergence of scientific initiatives at the crossroads of disciplines.
T
he University of Liege, ULB University and non-profit organisation MNEMA, recognized by decree of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation as a "multidisciplinary center for the transmission of memory", have embarked on an innovative project, focusing on an object of study that now occupies an important place in the interests and scientific activities of many researchers: memory, both individual and collective.
The process initiated by the three partner institutions has led to the creation of an The Institute for Memory Studies and Research (IERM).
The project has received the support of the Rectors of ULiège and ULB, and is based on collaboration with a leading cultural player such as MNEMA-Cité Miroir, an expression of the dynamism of the associative fabric in French-speaking Belgium.
A transdisciplinary vision
IERM aims first and foremost to give greater visibility to the work and activities of ULiège and ULB researchers and teams involved in the study of various forms of memory, whether in the humanities and social sciences, the sciences and techniques, or the health sciences.
IERM also aims to respond to the growing need for interdisciplinarity felt by researchers working in their respective fields on the various aspects of memory.
With this in mind, IERM will provide an infrastructure for the development and support of federative scientific initiatives, likely to advance knowledge and reflection on a complex object of study, situated at the crossroads of several disciplines.
IERM's new website provides information on its missions, scientific advisory board and organization. The Memorandum, a prelude to its design, is available for download.
A free membership that distinguishes between associate and full members
Associate members are :
Coming from an academic or scientific institution, associate members are academics, researchers and doctoral students who, through their work and research, even if not a priority, feel concerned by IERM's projects and activities.
Scientists from institutions other than ULiège and ULB are welcome. They can join the IERM network and interact with other members and projects.
All associate members will have their work related to the theme of remembrance promoted by IERM, in accordance with one of its missions.
All associate members may state that they belong to the Institute.
Associate members are
Individuals interested in the IERM project, whether inside or outside a university institution, and who wish to be kept informed of its activities and events.
